Genhelix to build the first monoclonal antibodies plant in Spain

Grifols Engineering is contracted to design this plant.
Genhelix S.A , a biotech company which manufactures monoclonal antibodies through cell culture technology, will build it first monoclonal antibodies plant. The plant will be located in the Technology Park in the city of Leon.
Genhelix manufactures high value active components in the fields of immunology, cancer and vascular therapies. The applied techniques are based on the production of monoclonal antibodies which are used to treat certain kinds of cancers. The engineering project for this new 16,000m2 plant will be carried out by Grifols Engineering, a consulting engineer company pertaining to Grifols group of companies in the hospital-pharmaceutical sector. The facilities will include a manufacturing area, storage warehouse, service area, laboratories and offices. The plant will be fully operational by 2011.

Grifols Engineering has the experience to develop biopharmaceutical engineering projects and has in-depth knowledge on the purification of biological products. GE also has proven experience in regulatory affairs with the US FDA and European EMEA.
