New area for preparing and filling parenteral nutrition solutions

A new parenteral nutrition production area has been successfully launched in Grifols plant in Parets del Valles (Barcelona, Spain). Centralizing the manufacture of these products in a single production unit was intended to optimize production costs.

The plant has two distinct areas, a preparation and a filling area, which are designed and constructed by Grifols Engineering. The preparation area includes 4 reactors designed specifically for the preparation of a specific product, each with specific temperature and oxygen concentration control, and a CIP washing system. The process is completely automated to guarantee maximum product integrity during preparation. The filling area is separate from the production area and includes one filling line for glass bottles and another for bags. Grifols Engineering's Applied Engineering department automated both lines. The facility has two ISO classified zones, ISO 7 and ISO 8: both areas comply with GMP standards.

With the incorporation of this new facility, Grifols can ensure a continuous supply of clinical nutrition products as well as have the possibility to expand production further to meet demands.
