Grifols Engineering begins construction on the company's new IGIV plant in Los Angeles

Construction for the future intravenous immunoglobulin production plant for the next generation Flebogamma® DIF began in January with the oversight of Grifols Engineering. Representing an investment of 50 million euros, the plant has been incorporated into the investment plan over the course of the next five years to ensure the company's long term growth. One of the main objectives of the plan is to increase Grifols' plasma fractionation capacity.


Grifols Engineering, the group's engineering company, is responsible for the design and construction of this project in the company's United States industrial complex. This project involves the development and engineering of different protein purification systems and containers which will be included in the new factory. GE will use their experience in launching similar plants in order to optimize the new plant ensuring, a high index of productivity.


Some of the production instruments Grifols Engineering will manufacture include: reactors, UF, chromatographies and sterile filling equipment. The engineering team at Grifols Engineering combined with cutting edge technology has improved yield and the performance of this equipment, which complies with the strictest standards in the health sector from the EMEA and FDA.
