Automated Nanofiltration System

In 2004 the European health authorities approved Grifols' new Intravenous Immunoglobulin plant which was designed and built by Grifols Engineering. The new facility was created to obtain an immunoglobulin with higher levels of purity and safety for patients, thanks to the various virus inactivation steps in the process.

Grifols Engineering designed the plant according the requirements and restrictions which govern production processes for biotech products, while employing a level of automation which attains the optimal balance between execution time, validation and added value in terms of operation and safety.

The aim was to guarantee the levels of control and quality required in a final product which has undergone a purification process with various steps of microfiltration, ultrafiltration, pasteurization, chromatography and a final inactivation step through nanofiltration.

Grifols Engineering will integrate this final nanofiltration step, create the equipment required in the process, incorporate it in other systems in the facility, enable monitoring and recording of the stages of the process and online monitoring of critical values and also the control architecture.
